Timișoara junior handball match marred by spectator brawl
A violent physical altercation broke out between parents in the stands during a U15 national junior handball match in Timișoara. The incident occurred at the Constantin Jude Sports Hall during a game between LPS Banatul Timișoara and CSC Millenium Giarmata.
The conflict reportedly began due to dissatisfaction with refereeing decisions. Verbal arguments escalated into a physical brawl involving several adults, with some individuals falling over seats while the 13-14-year-old players watched from the court. The match itself was highly contentious, resulting in 20 two-minute penalties and the disqualification of the home team's coach, Attila Horvath.
The Romanian Handball Federation (FRH) has condemned the violence and scheduled an emergency meeting of its Board of Directors to determine disciplinary measures. Local police have launched an investigation to identify the individuals involved, though no formal complaints have been filed as of the latest reports. Coach Adriana Beldiman criticized the behavior, stating that handball should be about respect and fair play rather than adult egos.
