César Huerta officially returns to Pumas UNAM

César ‘Chino’ Huerta has officially returned to Pumas UNAM for the Apertura 2026 tournament following a difficult stint in Europe with Anderlecht. The 25-year-old Mexican winger signed a three-year contract and will wear the number 10 jersey.

Huerta revealed that his time in Belgium was marred by injuries, including two surgeries, which limited him to only six months of actual play. He stated that Anderlecht ‘closed the doors’ on him, separating him from the group and making it clear he was no longer in their plans. Despite attempting to find another European club before the transfer window closed, no formal offers materialized.

Describing the move as an opportunity to ‘reinvent’ himself rather than a step backward, Huerta expressed his desire to help Pumas win a championship. He noted that he personally contacted Pumas' sporting vice president, Antonio Sancho, to expedite the negotiation process. The player aims to regain his form and maintain his standing with the Mexican national team.
