PAN deputy Nancy Frías says Morena rejected forced‑displacement plan in Chihuahua
PAN deputy Nancy Frías criticized the ruling Morena party for voting against an exhortation that sought a stronger federal strategy to prevent and address internal forced displacement in Chihuahua, especially in the Sierra Tarahumara indigenous and rural communities. The proposal called for enhanced coordination among the federal government, the state of Chihuahua and municipal authorities, and for permanent security measures, humanitarian assistance, reparations and safe‑return mechanisms for families forced to flee violence. Frías said, “Morena decided to turn its back on families that have had to flee violence,” adding that displaced families lose housing, assets, livelihoods and basic services. She noted that Chihuahua has already provided roughly 8,500 supports to displaced families since the end of 2024, but argued that a national policy is required.
The proposal was rejected in the Permanent Deputation with three votes in favour, two against, one abstention and one member absent. In a separate development, former Chihuahua mayor Juan Blanco urged PAN members to unite behind César Jáuregui as the party’s candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial race, asserting that PAN’s past defeats stem from internal divisions rather than external opponents.
