César Picón emerges as potential 2027 Ibagué mayoral candidate

César Leonardo Picón Arciniegas is emerging as a potential candidate for the 2027 mayoral election in Ibagué, representing alternative political sectors. While his candidacy has not been officially formalized, his extensive background in public administration and political ties are positioning him as a notable contender.

Picón has held various roles at municipal, departmental, and national levels. He served as the Secretary of Rural Development for Ibagué between 2017 and 2019, where he focused on environmental policies and water source protection. His career also includes positions as a territorial director for the Tolima Governorate and roles within the Rural Development Agency. Currently, he serves as the head of the Office of Territorial Management, Emergencies, and Disasters at the Ministry of Health.

His political alignment with former mayor and current Minister of Health, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, is considered a significant factor in his potential run. Local councilman Rodrigo Andrés Zambrano has identified Picón as one of the names being considered by alternative groups seeking a unified candidacy for the capital of Tolima.
