Czechoslovak Group acquires 9.5% stake in MDA Space
Czechoslovak Group (CSG), the Czech defense and industrial conglomerate owned by Michal Strnad, has acquired a 9.5% stake in Canadian space technology firm MDA Space, making it the company's largest individual shareholder. The investment, made through a dedicated subsidiary, marks CSG's strategic entry into the space sector.
CSG views the move as a natural extension of its existing defense and aerospace operations, noting that space technology is increasingly vital for security, communications, and intelligence. The group aims to leverage this partnership to explore potential industrial collaborations, such as joint investments in manufacturing or assembly facilities within Europe.
The acquisition follows previous smaller-scale venture capital investments by CSG's Tech Horizons VC fund in UK-based SatVu and Germany-based Atmos Space Cargo. CSG has also established a specialized team of experts, including former NATO space advisor Ladislav Stahl, to lead its long-term space strategy. This move aligns with projections that the global space economy could reach $1.8 trillion by 2035.
