German and Austrian regulators approve 4iG and CSG Defence defense partnership

The German and Austrian antitrust authorities have approved the strategic defense industry partnership between Hungarian company 4iG and Czech firm CSG Defence.

Under the terms of the agreement announced in March, CSG Defence will acquire a 49 percent stake in 4iG SDT EGY Zrt., which grants the Czech company an indirect ownership of nearly 37 percent in Rába Járműipari Holding. Additionally, CSG will acquire a 49 percent stake in the Austrian-based Hirtenberger Defence Systems, though 4iG will maintain majority control with 51 percent ownership.

The German Federal Cartel Office noted that the product portfolios of the involved companies are complementary rather than overlapping, suggesting the merger could potentially stimulate competition. This partnership is expected to integrate Rába into export programs for CSG and Tatra Trucks, potentially involving the production of Turkish Gidrán armored vehicles and Czech military trucks.
