CSIC launches Asymetree to optimize precision irrigation

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has launched Asymetree, a new technology-based spin-off designed to optimize irrigation in woody crops. Developed by researcher José Antonio Jiménez Berni from the Institute of Sustainable Agriculture (IAS-CSIC), the technology utilizes agronomic data, sensors, and remote sensing tools to provide tree-by-tree irrigation recommendations.

The solution integrates proprietary sensors, agronomic models, and a software platform to transform large volumes of data into practical guidance for farmers. It has already been applied to crops such as olives, almonds, pistachios, and citrus fruits to improve water use efficiency. Asymetree is one of four new knowledge-based companies promoted by CSIC to transition research into strategic market sectors.
