CSIR launches five multilingual science magazines in India

To mark its 85th Foundation Day, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has launched five new popular science magazines in regional Indian languages. The new publications, released by the CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR), include Bigyan Lahar (Assamese), Bigyan Brittanto (Bengali), Vidnyan Kshitij (Marathi), Ariviyal Arikkaiyalar (Tamil), and Vigyan Velugu (Telugu).

The initiative aims to make scientific knowledge more accessible and highlight regional innovations. A key component of the project is the use of Artificial Intelligence to assist in translating content from existing flagship magazines, such as Science Reporter, Vigyan Pragati, and Science ki Duniya. To ensure accuracy, these AI-generated translations undergo a rigorous process of human review, proofreading, and fact-checking by experts.

The launch was led by Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh, with participation from CSIR Director General Dr. N. Kalaiselvi and CSIR-NIScPR Director Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam.
