CSKA Sofia criticised for 4‑0 friendly defeat as club eyes league title

Former CSKA Sofia player Georgi Iliev, known as “Maykala”, said a 4‑0 loss to Ukrainian side Polissya in a pre‑season friendly was unacceptable for the club. He stressed that the result does not reflect CSKA’s standards and urged the sport director and coach to take the defeat seriously, while noting that such matches are used to test line‑ups and that more friendlies are planned before the league starts.

Iliev also expressed optimism that CSKA can still contend for the Bulgarian championship this season. He defended head coach Hristo Yanev, calling him a good person but insisting the club must improve after recent cup success. Iliev raised questions about the possible signing of forward Sensi, claiming rumours of high wages and a history of injuries; he said any new player should undergo thorough medical checks before joining.

Overall, Iliev called for a more focused preparation period to give players a chance to prove themselves and to avoid repeat heavy defeats.
