CSKA Sofia readies for 2026/27 Europa League qualifiers, eyes summer transfers

Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia will return to UEFA competition in the 2026/27 season, entering the Europa League at the first qualifying round. The draw held on 16 June paired CSKA with Ireland’s Derry City, with the two legs scheduled for 9 July and 16 July. If they progress, a second‑round tie against Qarabağ or Westri is slated for 23 July and 30 July.

In preparation for the campaign, CSKA has begun its summer recruitment. The club announced the signing of midfielder Joël Cvarc and is reportedly close to acquiring Argentine right‑back Erik Mesa from Estudiantes for a fee of around €2.5 million, a move aimed at solving defensive issues that have troubled the team in recent seasons.
