CSM appoints new deputy prosecutors in Venice and Bologna

The Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura (CSM) has appointed new deputy prosecutors for Venice and Bologna. Ciro Vittorio Caramore, a former deputy prosecutor in Novara, Ivrea, and Busto Arsizio with experience in anti-mafia and economic-financial investigations, was selected for Venice with 15 votes.

In Bologna, Stefano Dambruoso was appointed with 15 votes in favor, 11 against, and 3 abstentions. Dambruoso, a former member of Parliament during the Monti administration and an expert in anti-terrorism, faced scrutiny regarding his political impartiality. Concerns were raised by a competing candidate and progressive magistrates due to his recent political activities, including a near-candidacy for mayor in Bari and participation in regional political events. Despite requests to re-evaluate his independence, the appointment proceeded following support from conservative judicial factions and center-right lay councilors.
