Romania celebrates Army Day with ceremonies and security warnings
Romania marked Army Day on October 25, commemorating the 1944 liberation of North-West Transylvania, including the cities of Carei and Satu Mare, from foreign occupation. Official ceremonies, religious services, and military parades were held across the country in major cities such as Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Satu Mare, and Pitești, as well as in international garrisons including Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Moldova.
During the commemorations, high-ranking officials addressed the current geopolitical climate. Prime Minister Luca Niculescu warned that peace is no longer a given, citing cyber threats, hybrid attacks, and disinformation campaigns as significant challenges. President Nicușor Dan emphasized that a strong army relies on a robust economy, noting that investments in military modernization and the national defense industry are essential for national security and NATO commitments.
In addition to domestic celebrations, the day served as a moment of remembrance for those who fell in past conflicts and those currently serving in international missions. Local authorities in various regions, including Slatina and Piatra Neamț, organized exhibitions of military equipment and honors for veterans and active-duty personnel.
