CSN to sell cement and German steel assets to reduce debt
CSN is expected to decide on the sale of two major assets in the coming days as part of a strategy to reduce leverage, led by new CEO Fabio Schwartzman. The company reported a net debt of R$ 42.1 billion and leverage of 3.49 times at the end of the second quarter of 2026.
The first major move involves the potential sale of CSN Cimentos for approximately R$ 11 billion. The Chinese company Huaxin has emerged as a frontrunner for the acquisition after forming a consortium of international banks for financing, though Votorantim and Italy's Cementir remain in the competition.
The second pending decision involves the sale of CSN's steel operations in Germany, a move that could generate gains of R$ 1.5 billion.
Market analysts, including BTG Pactual, have reacted positively to Schwartzman's appointment. The bank noted that his experience at companies such as Vale and Klabin is well-aligned with the market's desire for improved capital allocation, leadership clarity, and investor confidence.
