CSU demands federal funding for hospital heat protection

The CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian State Parliament is calling on the German federal government to provide financial support for heat protection in hospitals and care facilities. This demand follows a summer where extreme temperatures caused significant hardship in healthcare settings; an estimate from the Robert Koch Institute suggests approximately 2,150 people died in Bavaria due to high temperatures.

CSU parliamentary group leader Klaus Holetschek is seeking clarity regarding the federal government’s ‘Hospital Transformation Fund’. While up to 50 billion euros are available for modernizing clinics, it remains uncertain whether these funds can be used for climate adaptation and heat protection measures. Holetschek emphasized that heat protection is essential for national resilience, particularly within the health and care sectors. He advocated for utilizing technical and structural measures to prepare for future summers without increasing bureaucracy.
