CSU faces electoral concerns despite high Bavarian approval

A representative survey by the Allensbach Institute, commissioned by the Association of the Bavarian Economy, indicates high satisfaction with the Bavarian state government. Approximately 62 percent of Bavarians believe their state is well-governed, viewing its economic strength and government actions as superior to other German states.

Despite this local approval, concerns are rising within the CSU regarding potential electoral decline. Following significant losses by the CDU in recent state elections, CSU members fear being pulled into a broader downward trend affecting the Union. With Bavarian elections approaching in two years, voters are increasingly focused on federal politics.

Public sentiment highlights a significant need for reform, specifically regarding bureaucracy reduction, increased housing construction, and secure medical care. CSU parliamentary group leader Klaus Holetschek noted that the party must address these issues directly, regardless of whether the primary responsibility lies with the federal government in Berlin.
