CSU leader Alexander Hoffmann maintains federal reform course despite election losses
Alexander Hoffmann, the CSU parliamentary group leader, has stated that recent election losses for the CDU and SPD in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will not alter the federal reform course. Speaking on ZDF, Hoffmann argued that the functionality of democracy is tied to its ability to successfully implement reforms, noting that many citizens feel long-standing issues have been neglected for decades.
Hoffmann characterized the election results as a disappointment for the Union family, suggesting that recent voting patterns in Saxony-Anhalt also reflect public anxiety regarding economic and social decline. He emphasized that the promised reforms must demonstrate long-term benefits to the population to restore confidence.
Regarding internal Union discussions concerning the leadership of Friedrich Merz, Hoffmann stated that the CSU is not engaging in personnel debates, asserting that their focus remains on advancing the country.
