CSU Niederbayern discusses science and culture funding

The CSU Niederbayern district board met in Windorf with Science Minister Markus Blume to discuss the development of higher education and cultural landscapes in the region. Minister Blume reported that science construction projects currently involve a volume of approximately 700 million euros, with key focuses including the Lower Bavaria Medical Campus, which aims to provide around 600 study places across Deggendorf, Landshut, Passau, and Straubing.

Other major projects include the International Science Center at Spitzberg in Passau and the integration of a former Carmelite monastery into the Straubing university campus. Additionally, the region has already benefited from nearly 100 new professorships through the High Tech Agenda Bavaria.

CSU district chairman Christian Bernreiter called for sufficient basic funding for science locations in rural areas. There are also demands for increased state funding for the Landestheater Niederbayern. Currently, the state's share of funding for the theater is 20 percent, compared to up to 40 percent in other Bavarian administrative districts. Minister Blume indicated a gradual increase in the state's financing share is possible.
