CSUN students protest for investment policy changes
Students at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) held a pro-Palestinian protest on the university library lawn to demand changes to the institution's investment policies.
Organized by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), the demonstrators called for ethical investment guidelines to prevent university funds from supporting industries associated with war, policing, and surveillance. Organizers expressed a desire for systemic changes to how the university invests, rather than simply removing specific companies from its holdings.
Protesters also highlighted concerns regarding university funds managed through Goldman Sachs and called for CSUN to sever ties with OpenAI due to fears regarding the use of artificial intelligence in surveillance and immigration enforcement. Additionally, demonstrators urged California Senators to oppose H.R. 4795, a bill that could impact federal funding for universities.
