CTB union mobilizes for shorter workweeks and labor rights
The Central dos Trabalhadores e Trabalhadoras do Brasil (CTB) is intensifying mobilization efforts to advocate for labor rights, specifically focusing on the end of the 6x1 work scale and the reduction of the weekly workweek to 40 hours. This movement follows a favorable vote in the Chamber of Deputies regarding PEC 221, which now moves toward the Senate.
CTB President Adilson Araújo has emphasized a dual strategy of public pressure and legislative dialogue. While union leaders engage in direct mobilization—including demonstrations in São Paulo and leafleting in transit hubs—they are also scheduled to meet with Senate leadership and party leaders to secure majority support for the constitutional amendment.
Beyond immediate labor demands, the CTB is organizing around broader political goals, including the strengthening of collective bargaining for public servants and mobilizing support for the re-election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in 2026.
