Côte d'Ivoire advances land security and ecosystem monitoring

Côte d'Ivoire is implementing new measures to manage its natural resources and land rights. The Ministry of Environment and Ecological Transition has signed a 24-month framework agreement with TerraKora AI to enhance ecosystem monitoring. This partnership will utilize satellite imagery, field surveys, and artificial intelligence to track forest changes, land restoration, and agricultural shifts in near real-time to inform public policy and carbon market activities.

Separately, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production reported a 30% decrease in land conflicts due to the National Rural Land Securitization Program. During the first Abidjan Land Days, Minister Bruno Nabagné Koné highlighted that securing land rights is essential for social cohesion and investment. Despite this progress, significant challenges remain, including the need to secure 23 million hectares of land and issue approximately 1.5 million land certificates.
