Côte d’Ivoire bans unauthorized filming of students in schools
The Ivorian Ministry of National Education, Literacy, and Technical Education has issued a strict prohibition against teachers and school staff filming or photographing students during lessons without prior parental consent.
This directive follows a rise in viral content on social media platforms, such as TikTok, where classroom activities, dances, and student interactions were being recorded and shared. The ministry aims to protect the fundamental rights and image integrity of children, ensuring they are not exposed on digital platforms without authorization.
The measure, communicated via a formal note from the Directorate of Schools, Lycées, and Colleges, emphasizes that while digital tools can be used to promote educational activities, staff must exercise professionalism and responsibility. The policy covers classrooms, playgrounds, and other school premises to prevent the unauthorized dissemination of students' images.
