Côte d'Ivoire enables Meta content monetization for creators

The Ivorian government has initiated a process to enable content monetization on Meta platforms, allowing local creators to receive direct payments through Facebook and Instagram. This move follows several months of successful technical testing conducted between the Ivorian state and Meta.

This initiative is viewed as a significant regulatory step for the African creative ecosystem. While South Africa has previously utilized international monetization programs from Meta, YouTube, and TikTok, Côte d'Ivoire is noted as a pioneering francophone African nation to engage in a structured institutional approach to secure local market access for digital monetization.

Beyond the economic impact of providing direct revenue streams to content producers, the move is described as an innovation in digital governance, with the state acting as a facilitator for national creators to access global platform revenues. Authorities and Meta representatives are continuing discussions to define specific access criteria and remuneration modalities.
