Côte d’Ivoire negotiates $150 million glass plant deal with Xinyi Glass

Côte d’Ivoire is in discussions with China’s Xinyi Glass regarding a potential $150 million investment to establish an automotive glass manufacturing plant. If the project proceeds, it would mark the group’s first African facility dedicated specifically to the production of automotive windshields and mirrors.

The Côte d’Ivoire Investment Promotion Center (CEPICI) held talks with the manufacturer in Shanghai to explore the project. The initiative aligns with national goals to transition from an economy focused on raw material exports to one driven by high-value industrial manufacturing. Such a move would support regional efforts by ECOWAS to develop an integrated automotive industry in West Africa.

A market study is scheduled for October to evaluate the project's feasibility, focusing on energy access, raw material availability, and government incentives. The assessment will also consider the role of SODEMI in identifying necessary mineral resources, such as silica and dolomite, to support production.
