Côte d'Ivoire reaches provisional agreement to lower fish prices

Following protests by fish vendors in Abobo and Daloa over rising costs, the Ivorian government has reached a provisional agreement to reduce the price of 20 kg cartons of horse mackerel and chub mackerel. The price for these species will drop from 33,000 FCFA to 30,500 FCFA.

The agreement was finalized during a working session in Abidjan led by the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Craft, Kalil Konaté. The meeting included importers, wholesalers, retailers, and consumer representatives. The Minister cited transport costs, fuel prices, and import dependency as key factors driving the recent price hikes.

To ensure the price reduction reaches consumers, a monitoring commission will be established. Additionally, the government plans to create an observatory for price and margin formation to increase transparency in the sector. Further discussions are scheduled to address the pricing of other fish species.
