CTI agent arrested for alleged murder of husband in Barranquilla

Shirley Hernández, an agent for the CTI's Economic Heritage section, has been arrested in Barranquilla for the alleged murder of her husband, Aldemar Alfredo Avendaño Carrillo. Avendaño Carrillo, 52, served as the secretary of justice for the Superior Tribunal of Barranquilla.

The arrest follows an investigation into the death of Avendaño Carrillo, who was found dead in his home in the Boston neighborhood on March 21. At the time, Hernández reported hearing gunshots while she was in another room with her children and claimed her husband had been drinking. While a 9mm pistol and shell casings were found at the scene, suggesting a possible suicide, forensic evidence contradicted this theory.

Autopsy results revealed the victim sustained four distinct gunshot wounds: one to the stomach, one to the left parietal region of the head, one to the right pectoral, and one to the distal third of the left forearm. Investigators determined these multiple wounds were inconsistent with suicide. Hernández was apprehended in the same neighborhood where the crime occurred and will face a judge.
