Cătălin Avramescu, former Romanian presidential adviser, under DIICOT child‑pornography investigation

Cătălin Avramescu, 58, is a former presidential adviser to Traian Băsescu and former ambassador to Finland and Estonia. He currently directs the Institute of Political Science and International Relations “Ion I. C. Brătianu” at the Romanian Academy and teaches at the University of Bucharest.

DIICOT agents conducted a raid and named Avramescu as a suspect in a case alleging production and distribution of child pornography. Avramescu denied the accusations, stating the complaint was filed by the mother of his children and that no evidence supports the charge. He said he will pursue civil and criminal actions for defamation.
