Cătălin Ranco Pițu to present new book on 1989 Romanian Revolution controversies

Former chief military prosecutor Cătălin Ranco Pițu will present his new book, “Teroriștii din decembrie 1989. Mituri și manipulări” (The Terrorists of December 1989: Myths and Manipulations), at the ASTRA Sibiu County Library on November 5, 2026.

The book, published by Editura Litera, examines the controversial phenomenon of alleged terrorist groups during the December 1989 Romanian Revolution. Drawing on research from the Revolution File, Pițu analyzes hypotheses regarding the existence of these groups and how certain interpretations of the events were constructed and propagated over the last three decades.

Pițu’s work is informed by his professional background as a military prosecutor involved in the investigation of the Revolution File, a massive legal case consisting of approximately 3,000 volumes. The presentation aims to provide a critical examination of existing theories and clarify controversial episodes of Romania’s recent history.
