Cătălin Silegeanu defends consumer protection bill in Romanian Senate

Romanian Senator Cătălin Silegeanu defended legislative project L350/2026 in the Senate, an initiative by AUR aimed at protecting families facing debt enforcement and potential loss of housing.

The proposal seeks to mandate that creditors, including banks, non-banking financial institutions (IFNs), leasing companies, and utility providers, offer viable payment alternatives at least 30 days before enforcement begins. These alternatives could include rescheduling, deferment, or temporary reduction of installments.

Key provisions of the project include the mandatory summoning of consumers during enforcement approval procedures, the ex officio analysis of abusive clauses by judges, and the possibility of provisional suspension of enforcement without a bail bond. For families with minors, the project requires judicial executors to notify social assistance services, ensuring that evictions do not occur until social authorities have analyzed the situation to prevent homelessness.
