Vigo residents protest proposed canine park design

The Familias con Perros de Barreiro platform has called for a protest in Vigo on Saturday, October 24, to oppose a municipal project for a canine area in the Barreiro neighborhood. The group is contesting a project budgeted at approximately 168,786 euros, arguing that the design lacks specialized canine behavior expertise and fails to promote animal welfare.

Instead of a closed enclosure, the collective proposes a shared-use model for green spaces. Their alternative includes specific time slots for off-leash walking: 9:00 to 11:00 in the mornings, and 18:00 to 21:00 in winter or 19:00 to 22:00 in summer. They suggest that the municipal investment should be redirected toward improvements that benefit all park users rather than a restricted facility.
