Cuauhtémoc Mayor announces support unit for families of missing persons
Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, the mayor of Cuauhtémoc, has announced an action plan to support families searching for missing persons in Mexico City. The initiative includes the establishment of an Attention and Accompaniment Unit, which will be part of the General Directorate of Social Development.
The new unit will provide legal counsel through lawyers, psychological support via psychologists, and social guidance through social workers. Additionally, the local government plans to open spaces for families and facilitate lodging for those traveling to the city to conduct searches.
The announcement follows a meeting with over 50 family members who shared the difficulties of navigating institutional obstacles and the exhaustion of seeking answers from authorities. This comes amid national figures from the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons indicating that over 132,000 people remain missing or unlocated.
