Honduran mayors endorse national security reforms

The Association of Nationalist Mayors of Honduras has expressed support for security reforms approved by the National Congress. During a meeting in Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Cortés, involving 153 mayors, the association signaled its backing of measures taken by the government and the legislature to combat organized crime and common delinquency.

Tomás Zambrano, President of the National Congress, emphasized that security issues require coordinated efforts between the central government and local authorities. He noted that the decisions involve cooperation with the National Council for Defense and Security (CNDS), the National Police, the Armed Forces, and the Public Ministry. The meeting highlighted the need for local and central governments to work together on security, health, and infrastructure to address the country's high crime rates.
