Virgilio Mendoza emerges as key figure in Colima opposition alliance
Political discussions are intensifying in Colima regarding the 2027 gubernatorial succession. Opposition figures are working toward a unified front to challenge the Morena party.
Virgilio Mendoza Amezcua, the former mayor of Manzanillo and current senator, is considered a decisive figure in these negotiations. He is one of three primary contenders for a common opposition candidacy, alongside Senator Mely Romero and the PAN mayor of the capital, Riult Rivera. There are ongoing dialogues involving Margarita Moreno, the state coordinator for Movimiento Ciudadano, to explore the formation of a broad state alliance. Final decisions regarding the coalition's leadership are expected to be made by national party directorates.
