Mexico educational institutions face security and safety challenges

Various educational institutions across Mexico are facing security and safety challenges, ranging from physical violence to administrative investigations.

In Morelos, students from the Escuela Normal Urbana Federal de Cuautla marched to demand better security guarantees from federal, state, and municipal authorities, citing risks during school activities and transit. Concurrently, Deputy Andrea Gordillo Vega proposed legislative reforms in the Morelos Congress to implement video surveillance linked to the C5 system around school perimeters to protect students.

In Tamaulipas, the Secretary of Education, Miguel Ángel Valdez García, is analyzing measures to combat theft and vandalism in Ciudad Victoria schools, including increased police patrols and the potential use of program funds for security personnel. Meanwhile, in Ciudad Madero, authorities have called for patience regarding an ongoing investigation by the State Prosecutor’s Office into allegations of sexual abuse involving a middle school director.

In Querétaro, the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ) reported three incidents during its rector election process, including a student protest at the Jalpan Campus involving allegations of sexual harassment by a professor.
