Cuautla to host Mexican federal violence prevention and disarmament strategy

Cuautla, Morelos, will host several components of the Mexican government's National Security Strategy aimed at preventing violence and addressing its root causes. The “Sí al Desarme, Sí a la Paz” (Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace) program will begin on September 25 at Asoleadero Cuautla, followed by a module at the Tren Escénico from September 26 to 30.

Under this initiative, citizens can voluntarily surrender firearms in exchange for cash compensation. Authorities have stated the process is anonymous and will not trigger investigations against participants, aiming to reduce household risks. The program also includes an exchange of military-style toys for educational toys to promote a culture of peace among children.

Additionally, the “Tianguis del Bienestar” will operate alongside these efforts, distributing free essential items such as clothing, footwear, backpacks, and utensils recovered from customs to provide social support to the community.
