Cuautla violence disrupts transport and schools after vehicle arsons
A wave of violence in Cuautla, Morelos, has severely disrupted daily life following a series of targeted attacks on public transportation. At least five transport vans have been intentionally burned, prompting several routes to suspend service. Affected routes include 13, 13B, 14, 14B, and most recently Route 5, which ceased operations toward Juan Morales in Yecapixtla after a vehicle was set on fire in the Benito Juárez neighborhood on October 16.
The insecurity has led to a de facto curfew imposed by the local population. Many residents avoid leaving their homes after dark due to fear for their physical integrity. This climate of violence has forced local businesses to close and led to the suspension of classes at various educational levels, although the Morelos Ministry of Education reported that 47 primary schools remained open.
Local transport operators have expressed deep concern and are demanding improved security strategies from authorities, noting that they cannot sustain service under current conditions. The disruption has significantly impacted mobility for workers and students throughout the eastern region of Morelos.
