Cuautlancingo officials lead reforestation of Atoyac River

Omar Muñoz, the municipal president of Cuautlancingo, led the third “Raíces para el Futuro” reforestation day to support the recovery and sanitation of the Atoyac River. During the event in the San Lorenzo Almecatla auxiliary board, 300 endemic tree species were planted along the riverbanks.

The initiative is part of the National Water Plan and aligns with environmental policies established by President Claudia Sheinbaum and Governor Alejandro Armenta. The project aims to restore local ecosystems, recover forest mass, facilitate aquifer recharge, and improve overall environmental quality.

Muñoz noted that eight kilometers of the Atoyac River border the municipality and emphasized the historical responsibility to reverse decades of environmental damage and pollution through coordinated government action.
