Cuba accuses Czech Republic of hypocrisy at UN Human Rights Council

During the 63rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Cuba’s permanent representative, Rodolfo Benítez, accused the Czech Republic of hypocrisy regarding its human rights stance.

Benítez compared the Czech Republic’s actions to the character Tartuffe from Molière’s play, alleging a vast gap between the country's preached values and its actual conduct. He specifically cited the systematic discrimination against minorities in the Czech Republic, including the segregation of Romani children in schools and the denial of housing and social benefits to vulnerable groups and migrants.

Furthermore, the Cuban diplomat criticized the Czech Republic for its support of Israel and the United States, claiming the country has opposed resolutions aimed at protecting Palestinian human rights in Gaza and occupied territories. Benítez called for the Czech Republic to practice self-criticism and address its own human rights violations before judging other nations.
