Cuba: Activists report surveillance and intimidation by State Security
Former political prisoner Alexander Díaz Rodríguez has reported being subjected to nighttime movement restrictions and surveillance by Cuban State Security agents. Despite having completed a five-year sentence related to the July 11, 2021, protests, Díaz Rodríguez claims he is being monitored and has been repeatedly taken to a police unit in Artemisa. He reported an incident where agents intercepted him while he was out for dinner and informed him he could not be on the streets after 8:00 PM.
In a separate incident, journalist Alejandra García reported being interrogated by State Security agents following a visit to Henry Constantín at the Kilo 7 maximum-security prison in Camagüey. García described the encounter as a “friendly dialogue” used as a cover for intimidation, where agents issued veiled threats regarding her family and her continued support for Constantín. She stated that agents presented her with an ultimatum to choose the “easy or the hard way” regarding her conduct.
