Cuba and Grenada Sign Education Agreements on Literacy and Special Education

Cuba and Grenada signed two memoranda of understanding in Saint George on August 4‑5 2026, covering special education and the Cuban literacy programme “Yo sí puedo”. The agreements were signed by Cuban Ambassador Yadirys Echenique Paz and Grenada’s permanent secretaries of the Ministry of Education, Lorraine St. Louis Nedd and Elvis Morain.

The accords aim to expand bilateral cooperation through joint teacher‑training projects and the implementation of proven Cuban teaching methodologies. The “Yo sí puedo” programme, created by pedagogue Leonela Relys, has been deployed in 30 countries and helped Honduras achieve literacy goals. The signings coincided with the 47th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, underscoring Cuba’s solidarity‑driven support for human development in Grenada.
