Cuba and Hungary implement legislative reforms regarding identity and LGBTQ+ rights

Cuba has implemented a new Civil Registry Law that simplifies the process for transgender individuals to legally modify their name and sex. Under the new regulations, which took effect on September 16, individuals no longer require clinical verification or gender reassignment surgery to update their identity documents. This removes previous requirements that necessitated proving social use of a name through multiple community endorsements.

In Hungary, the Parliament has amended legislation that previously linked homosexuality to pedophilia and restricted discussions of homosexual relationships in schools and children's television programming. The reform, driven by the Tisza Party, removes provisions that prohibited content presenting changes to birth sex or homosexuality. This move follows a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union, which found the previous law violated community values and prompted infringement proceedings by the European Commission. The new law focuses on protecting minors under 18 from materials deemed harmful to their physical, intellectual, emotional, or moral development.
