Cuba and Iran delegations walk out of UN during Trump speech

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, delegations from Cuba and Iran staged walkouts in response to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump characterized the Cuban government as a “failed state” that is “failing like never before” and predicted its imminent collapse. He also noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is deeply involved in ongoing negotiations with the Cuban government. In response to these accusations, the Cuban delegation, led by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla, exited the hall. Rodríguez Parilla later rejected the U.S. statements on social media, calling them “falsehoods” and “slanders” and defending Cuba's sovereignty.

Similarly, the Iranian delegation left the assembly hall when the President addressed topics concerning military attacks on Iran over the previous six months. Only one member of the Iranian delegation remained in the session during that portion of the speech.
