Cuba and Vietnam expand agricultural cooperation in Granma

Cuba and Vietnam are strengthening agricultural cooperation through a joint rice production project in the Granma province, specifically within the municipality of Yara. The initiative, led by the Vietnamese company TBAgri in partnership with the Cuban firm Fernando Echenique, aims to boost domestic food security.

Under the project ‘TB AGRI Connecting Vietnam with Cuba’, the first batch of 470.99 tons of OM5451 rice variety has been delivered. The project currently manages approximately 250 hectares of planted rice, with long-term goals to expand cultivation to 2,000 hectares in the short term and eventually reach a target of 25,000 hectares.

Local authorities recently inspected the Enidio Díaz mill, a modern facility capable of processing 1.2 tons of rice per hour and providing various packaging options. Additionally, construction is underway for a logistics and housing center to support Vietnamese collaborators. Despite recent damage from a severe local storm, officials report high productive yields per hectare.
