Cuba anticipates 2,060 MW power shortfall during peak night hours

Union Eléctrica reported that the Cuban National Electric System is expected to face a deficit of about 2,062 MW during the night‑time peak on Sunday. The shortfall results from limited thermal generation—units 6 and 8 at CTE Mariel, unit 2 at CTE Felton and unit 3 at CTE Renté are out of service—and ongoing maintenance at several other plants. Solar photovoltaic parks contributed 4,870 MWh, with a maximum of 758 MW delivered during midday.

At 06:00 h the system had 1,108 MW available against a demand of 2,807 MW, leaving 1,723 MW affected. Forecasts for maximum demand predict a need of 3,200 MW, indicating a continued deficit of roughly 2,032 MW and confirming the estimated 2,062 MW shortfall for the peak period.
