Cuba begins campaign against terrorism and blockade with tribute to Fabio di Celmo
Cuba has launched a series of commemorative events titled the “Jornada contra el terrorismo, el bloqueo y a favor de las causas justas” (Day against terrorism, the blockade, and in favor of just causes). The campaign began with a tribute to Fabio di Celmo, an Italian tourist killed 29 years ago during a terrorist attack at the Hotel Copacabana in Havana.
In Granma, the tribute included an exhibition of personal items donated by the di Celmo family at the Bayamo Wax Museum. Simultaneously, members of the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association held a tribute at the Arenzano Cemetery in Italy, where di Celmo is buried.
During the ceremonies, officials from the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) condemned acts of terrorism and the economic blockade against Cuba. Representatives criticized the historical impact of US policies on the island, citing rising infant mortality rates and economic hardships as consequences of the ongoing blockade.
