Cuba begins transition to new environmental management standards

Cuban companies currently certified under the NC-ISO 14001:2015 standard have been granted a transition period of two years and nine months to adopt the new NC-ISO 14001:2026 environmental management system version.

According to the Certification Directorate of the National Normalization Office (ONN), the update follows the publication of the fourth edition of the international ISO 14001:2026 standard. This new edition replaces the 2015 version and its 2024 modification. Key updates include aligning terms with the Harmonized Structure of management system standards, addressing climate change within organizational contexts, and replacing “legal requirements and others” with “compliance obligations.”

The transition period officially began with the publication of the NC-ISO 14001:2026 on May 15, 2026. Certificates issued under the previous 2015 version will expire on February 15, 2029.
