Cuba blames US sanctions for power grid crisis and aid confusion

Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla warned that the United States' economic war is crippling Cuba's national electricity system. He cited the cancellation of turbine parts, the refusal of technical assistance, punitive tariffs, and the denial of banking services that block more than 140 transfers for solar and wind projects. Rodríguez said, “The Cuban electric system is not a victim of neglect. It is a victim of an atrocious war.”

He also accused US Secretary of State Marco Rubio of deliberately misrepresenting the amount of humanitarian aid the United States has offered. Rodríguez noted that a $3 million aid shipment announced in November 2025 took six months to materialise, and questioned Rubio's claim that the US would soon deliver $100 million, contrasting it with the “more than $5 billion annual” impact of the US energy embargo. Rodríguez stated, “He constantly confuses, with total intent, the figures and Cuba’s response to the aid announced by his government.”
