Cuba celebrates cultural figures during Jornada por la Cultura Cubana

As part of the Jornada por la Cultura Cubana, various municipalities in Cuba held ceremonies to honor significant cultural contributors and historical milestones.

In San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque, local authorities recognized Ulises Hernández Expósito, a multi-award-winning radio and television director, documentarian, and poet, as well as Julio Pedro Coto, director of the Grupo de Teatro Tacón. The municipality also honored community transformation projects and local literary institutions.

In the Isla de la Juventud municipality, tributes were paid to visual artist Antonio Lewis Belgrove and radio director Carlos Ramón Casasayas Calafell. Additionally, the Julio Antonio Mella municipal library hosted events commemorating Day of Race and Cultural Diversity, while also marking the 156th anniversary of José Martí’s arrival in the region as a political deportee in 1870.
