Cuba commemorates 1959 anti‑Castro fighters killed in Santiago de Cuba

On June 29 Cuba observes the anniversary of a series of early‑post‑revolution executions of individuals the new regime labeled counter‑revolutionaries, including former air‑force commander Pedro Luís Díaz Lanz and several others listed in historic accounts.

In Santiago de Cuba a public memorial clock was unveiled to mark June 30, recalling three young members of the 26 July Movement—Josué País (19), Floro Vistel (23) and Salvador Pascual (23)—who were shot while confronting a regime rally. Their deaths were noted in a letter from Frank País to Fidel Castro and prompted a city‑wide funeral procession and public mourning.
