Cuba conducts defense zone inspections to strengthen local response capabilities
Cuban leadership conducted inspections of various defense zones as part of National Defense Day to evaluate organizational capacity and response readiness for exceptional scenarios.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez visited the “Roble-Chibás” Defense Zone in Guanabacoa. He emphasized the importance of strengthening local capacities and utilizing regional economic actors to anticipate adverse situations. Key priorities identified for the area include maintaining electrical services, solid waste collection, water supply, and supporting vulnerable populations, such as the elderly.
Simultaneously, Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz visited the Santiago de las Vegas Defense Zone in Boyeros. Officials there reported on the preparation of Production and Defense Brigades and population protection exercises. Discussions focused on balancing defensive readiness with economic and social priorities, including food production, hygiene, and energy sovereignty in sensitive centers.
