United Nations marks 81st anniversary of Charter

The United Nations marks its 81st anniversary on October 24, commemorating the 1945 entry into force of the UN Charter. The anniversary serves as a global occasion to reflect on the organization's mission to maintain international peace, protect human rights, and foster sustainable development.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has used the occasion to call for a return to diplomacy and international law to resolve escalating global conflicts. He emphasized that the future of humanity depends on collective action to address modern challenges, including the climate crisis, rising inequalities, and rapid technological advancements.

Various member states and regional leaders have issued statements regarding the organization's role. In Cuba, UN representatives expressed commitment to supporting national economic and social transformations. Meanwhile, leaders in Turkey and elsewhere have called for reforms to make the UN Security Council more inclusive and effective in responding to contemporary geopolitical tensions and humanitarian crises.
